     choose your     adventure...

     Do it monkey!!!

Sometimes you need  to just give yourself permission to find the freedom to express yourself in ways that are not about the verbal.

Freedom coming from a place beyond the noise of words, the treadmill of definitions.

The workshops on offer are more about the meditation found in an artist's monastery rather than a classroom;
a laboratory rather than a museum;
an experience of the explorer rather than the regulated pathway

What adventure do you need?

The Alexander Technique and Dart Procedures

Look at this guy!!
Hie must have some terrible shoulder ache. Do you know someone like this? Over time, through the pressures of dealing with a 21st century way of living, certain habits of moving, or habits of thinking, create discomfort or injury that can really make life a misery. The Alexander Technique is a way of changing your personal habits for ease of movement and to enable the body to heal through balanced choice. There is a great description of it here:
www.alexandertechnique.com/articles2/arnoldat/
I offer lessons in the Alexander Technique for folks who want to alleviate aches and pains, or who are recovering from injury or anyone who simply wishes to improve their way of life or quality of movement.
I am in the last few months of my training and so offer classes at a very reasonable rate. $35 for a half hour, $50 for an hour.

In my Alexander Technique lessons , I include a personal practice you can use on your own terms, The Dart Procedures. Raymond Dart created a series of personal studies that enable you to release your physical and mental tensions in such a way that you are able to find your own natural way to move and to give you tools to balance your thinking as you go through the day. Ease at work

Picture
Down through the age of commerce and  industry....
the easing of aches and pains make for big business - we are put in some rather unnatural positions at work that cause aches and pains - then we go to a gym to do further work to work out those aches and pains! How about a bit of ease and release somewhere in there?

Human beings were probably harmed in the making of these photographs. I guarantee nothing we do to be like the above treatments....

For Actors, Singers....anyone who uses their voice...

Picture
Every day, of course we use our voice for expression of ideas and emotions, but some of us have the added burden of doing this under more intense circumstances. Some of us are performing monkeys, some of us love to to sing publicly, some of us would love to do this but for anxiety or perceived vocal challenges. Here at monkey do we can help you with the quality of your voice and the ease of performance. Just click the link below for a lesson.

Monkeys, Primitive movement,
Mime and the Alexander Technique

Mime or  mimesis has been around for as long as humans have been. These workshops use physical techniques  to reconnect to the doing part of your life, to develop your creativity and rehearse for a more easeful way of living. Ease rather than comfort, informed choice rather than perceived feel-good habit, the creative body from the bound body.

 Tai Chi and the Alexander Technique

Movement and habit change - rehearsal for life
There are a few workshops on offer for finding ways of practicing movement to make the everyday more easeful. Through the Tai Chi form certain principles of push and pull, falling in and falling out are practiced alongside the idea of the body as a tensegrity structure. You will learn to move to release, to find freedom in the joints as a pathway to finding the same freedom in every day activities
HERE IS STUFF ABOUT WHY WE DO STUFF
Our lives are deliberately guided, perpetually stimulated, and influentually slapped on a day to day basis. The over stimulation of our hormonal and neuro-chemical lives leaves us in a state of tension and habitual reactive vigilance.

It is so difficult to think and laugh and communicate through this state - and that crisis mind leads to a crisis body and vice versa in a less than desirable loop of distress.

I believe that if we understand our bodies and the way that our minds work, we can be better equipped to deal with the problems of tomorrow whilst being effective friends and partners and community members today.
